Album Description
Lots of bands claim to be different, but few actually are. Engineers are definitely one of the few. They ardently believe in the restless, symphonic power of music and are driven by the same impulse that compelled Dennis Wilson to write “Pacific Ocean Blue” or Talk Talk to forge “Spirit of Eden”. They occupy a smoked out space between Brian Eno and the Cocteau Twins through to Todd Rundgren, Spiritualized, or Air meets Beta Band…. More >>

In today’s music climate, where everything “new” is really re-cycled from old spare parts, it’s very hard to create something truly different and original, but Manchester’s ENGINEERS have done just that – at turns understated, sumptuous, and haunting, ENGINEERS have created a lush sonic soundscape that recalls past influences, yet carves out a new niche on their own – quite a feat, and quite a debut longplayer. This is a definite keeper that compells on to press “Repeat” on the CD shuffler – won’t you try it?

I purchased this CD based on an Amazon recommendation. The formula seemed conducive to something I would really, really like. I do admit this is a good album but it lacks something that I can’t quite put my finger on. I would definitely point to comtemporaries such as AU4 and, more importantly, the very strong and fleshed out album “Love And Distance” by The Helio Sequence as alternatives. I won’t shelf this album for good…I’ll give it a chance…but my first impression is that there are a lot better albums out there in this same vein.

There’s no complicated equation required for what the Engineers sound like: It’s the Lilys, “Eccsame the Photon Band.” Exact. EXACT. Which is okay, since that’s a brilliant CD. It’s better than this CD, in fact, and they got there first.
If you’ve already got “Eccsame” and love it, this CD is okay. Think of it as a tribute. Maybe with their next CD the Engineers will show some the creativity the Lilys have in spades.

I first heard this album on iTunes and fell immediately in love with the music. I enjoy the likes of Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Keane, etc. and the Engineers album fell right in line with them. The difference I think being that it’s a bit more dreamy pop than the others save Keane. But if you like music that puts you in a mood and makes you ponder, than you’ll love this album too. It’s catchy stuff and the music goes past your ears. Listen to the samples and you’ll know what I mean. Not too popular at all and maybe that’s the way I like it.
